Life

From 1956 to 1960 Büttner completed an apprenticeship as a decorator and poster painter in Zeitz , which was followed by studies at the Heiligendamm College of Applied Arts until 1961 . During this time the company moved to Rostock. From 1961 to 1966 he worked as a theater graphic artist at the Kleist Theater in Frankfurt (Oder) and at the Rostock Volkstheater . In 1967 he was accepted into the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR . In 1987 and 1988 Büttner was a member of the jury of poster biennials in Fort Collins (Colorado, USA) and Lahti (Finland). In 1989 he took part in the Il du desarmement campaign in Paris with five European designers .

In 1994 he was part of the planning team for the poster exhibition on the subject of humor and satire in Essen . At times he worked as a lecturer at the Rostock Technical Art School.

In 1996, Büttner's design for the bow painting of the new ships of the cruise company AIDA Cruises received great international attention . The motif consists of eyes (both sides) and a kissable mouth at the tip of the bow. Starting with today's AIDAcara , a design concept was implemented that has so far been continued in all of the shipping company's subsequent newbuildings. Feliks Büttner is also involved in the artistic interior design of the AIDA ships.

In 2018 he illustrated the exhibition catalog for the Joachim Ringelnatz Association in Wurzen with the title: Joachim Ringelnatz Feliks Büttner , which was published by Hinstorff Verlag in Rostock .

Feliks Büttner lives and works in a historic windmill in Lichtenhagen , on the outskirts of Rostock.
