Feliks Rączkowski

Feliks Rączkowski (born April 12, 1906 in Szczaworyż , † September 16, 1989 in Warsaw ) was a Polish organist, composer and music teacher.

Life

Rączkowski had his first organ lessons with Stanisław Pachlewski . From 1922 to 1926 he studied at the Salesian School for Organists in Przemyśl. From 1933 to 1936 he attended the organ class of Bronisław Rutkowski and studied composition with Kazimierz Sikorski at the Warsaw Conservatory . In the 1930s he was organist at the Church of the Holy Family in Warsaw. During the war years he worked as a violinist, accordion player and drummer in Café Mirage . In addition, like Mirosław Dąbrowski and Piotr Perkowski , he gave secret concerts in private houses as a pianist.

From 1945 to 1970 Rączkowski was the organist at the Warsaw Holy Cross Church, whose choir he also directed from 1953. With the choir took first place in the choir competition of the Archdiocese of Warsaw in 1959. As an organist, he performed more than eight hundred times between 1946 and 1984 in churches, concert halls, on radio and television. His repertoire included the world literature of organ music with an emphasis on the works of Polish composers as January Podbielski , Andrzej Rohaczewski , Piotr Żelechowski , Wincent Wacław Rychling , Feliks Nowowiejski , Kazimierz Jurdzinski , Gustaw Roguski , Tadeusz Paciorkiewicz and Marian Sawa . He also made numerous recordings on radio, television and vinyl.

From 1929 to 1933 and from 1936 to 1937 Rączkowski taught at the organist school in Przemyśl, and from 1937 at the Warsaw Conservatory. After the war he became a teacher at the State Music Academy in Warsaw, was deputy dean of the instrumental department from 1958 to 1968 and head of the organ department from 1973 to 1976. His students included here u. a. the organists Andrzej Chorosiński , Mirosława Perz , Augustyn Bloch , Stanisław Moryto , Marian Sawa , Marietta Kruzel-Sosnowska , Urszula Ptaszyńska-Grahm , Maria Terlecka , Jerzy Erdman and Tadeusz Olszewski . He also taught at the Karol Kurpiński Academy of Music and at the Institute of Musicology University of Catholic Theology. He was u. a. awarded the Knight's Cross of the Polonia Restituta Order (1973), the Ministry of Art and Culture Prize (1976) and the Papal Order of Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (1979).
