Augustyn Bloch

Augustyn Hipolit Bloch (born August 13, 1929 in Grudziądz , † April 6, 2006 in Warsaw ) was a Polish composer and organist .

After graduating from the State Music School in Gdansk - Langfuhr , Bloch studied at the State Music Academy in Warsaw with Feliks Rączkowski and Tadeusz Szeligowski (graduated in 1954 for organ playing, 1956 for composition studies). Among other things, he composed for Polish radio . From 1977 to 1979 he was Vice President of the Polish Composers' Union, from 1983 to 1987 Chairman of the Program Committee of the Warsaw Autumn Festival . He was married to the coloratura soprano Halina Łukomska-Bloch and was considered one of the most important exponents of new music in Poland. He has received numerous national and international awards for his work. For a time it was closely associated with the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music .
