Felipe Rodríguez (musician)
Felipe Rodríguez , OSB , often referred to in the literature as Felip Rodríguez in Catalan , (born May 1, 1760 in Madrid ; † May 5, 1815 ibid) was a Spanish organist, composer and monk of the Montserrat monastery .
life and work
Rodríguez joined the Escola de Montserrat around 1770 . Here he studied with Anselm Viola and Narcís Casanoves . In 1778 he joined the Benedictine order and the Montserrat monastery and made his profession . He later moved to Madrid and became an organist in the Montserrat de Madrid monastery .
Rodríguez was highly valued as an organist. Some of his key compositional works have come down to us, other works by him have been revised. Rodríguez composed mainly organ and piano sonatas, some of which are heavily based on the style of Joseph Haydn .
