Felix Heusser (born July 2, 1817 in Hombrechtikon ; † July 15, 1875 there , entitled to live in Hombrechtikon) was a Swiss country doctor and surgeon .

Life

Felix Heusser was born on July 2, 1817 as the son of Felix Heusser senior, barber-surgeon in Hundwil , in Hombrechtikon. After attending school in St. Gallen , he began an apprenticeship with the city ​​doctor of St. Gallen. He then studied medicine at the Universities of Heidelberg , Göttingen and Berlin .

From 1838 to 1839 Heusser traveled to Batavia , Sumatra , Java and Borneo in the role of ship's doctor . After returning, he opened a practice in Pfäffikon . In 1841 he passed the state examination without a doctorate in Zurich . He then ran his own practice in Hombrechtikon from 1841 to 1875. To this end, he acquired the Sonnenhof in 1851 (a memorial plaque was erected in his honor in 1948 ).

Felix Heusser, who was married to Barbara, nee Walder, died on July 15, 1875 in Hombrechtikon.

Act

Felix Heusser developed an extensive and demanding surgical activity and performed goiter removals and joint resections before Theodor Billroth and Theodor Kocher and with better results . Felix Heusser is considered a Swiss pioneer in the field of goiter and joint surgery. Along with Heinrich Locher ( Heinrich Locher-Zwingli , 1800–1865), he is the most important Swiss surgeon of his time.
