Felix Hoerburger

Felix Hoerburger (born December 9, 1916 in Munich , † February 3, 1997 in Regensburg ) was a writer, composer and ethnomusicologist who taught and researched at the University of Regensburg for decades .

In addition to his work as an ethnomusicologist, Hoerburger is best known as the inventor of an artificial language based on Bavarian , "Schnubiglbairischen".

Life

Felix Hoerburger was born in Munich in 1916 and studied musicology and ethnology there. In 1941 he received his doctorate on the music of the Ngoni in southern Africa , and in 1963 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on dance and dance music by the Albanians in Kosovo and Macedonia . From 1968 Hoerburger worked at the University of Regensburg as one of the leading ethnomusicologists in research and teaching until his retirement in 1976.

On numerous research trips he visited the following countries: Romania (1958), what was then Yugoslavia (1959), Greece (1959, 1965, 1970, 1972, 1973), Afghanistan , Nepal (1966, 1968) and Taiwan (1976). The trip to Afghanistan in particular was of particular importance, as Hörburger collected numerous materials there on Afghan music and culture, which helped to preserve the Afghan cultural heritage.
