Felix Walcher

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Felix Walcher (born April 14, 1967 in Berlin ) is a specialist in surgery , specialist in orthopedics and trauma surgery with a focus on trauma surgery and a university professor. He is the director of the Trauma Surgery Clinic at the Magdeburg University Hospital and represents trauma surgery in patient care, teaching and research. Acute medicine is a focus of his clinical and scientific work . This includes the management and individualized treatment of the seriously injured patient ( multiple trauma ) from pre-clinical emergency care to the shock room , surgical care and rehabilitation. The optimization of teaching and training in surgery and acute medicine is a central concern of Walcher.

He works as a project manager in a joint project of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) on the establishment of the National Emergency Admission Register of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (DIVI) for nationwide uniform and standardized electronic documentation of all emergencies in Germany.

Life

From 1986, Walcher studied human medicine at the Saarland University in Homburg / Saar and graduated in 1992 with a doctorate. After working as a doctor in an internship in anesthesiology at the Homburg University Hospital, he began working as an assistant at the local clinic for trauma, hand and reconstructive surgery in 1994, which lasted until 2001. During this time he obtained the qualification in emergency medicine and the qualification of chief emergency doctor and completed his specialist training in surgery.

In 2001 he moved to the University Clinic for Trauma, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , where he was appointed senior physician in 2002. At the University Hospital in Frankfurt he completed his training as a specialist in orthopedics and trauma surgery with a focus on special trauma surgery.

In 2006, Walcher completed his habilitation in surgery and began his Master of Medical Education training, which he completed in 2008. From 2009 to 2011 he was the managing senior physician and in 2011 received the title of adjunct professor. In addition to clinical and scientific work, Walcher has made a decisive contribution to teaching in surgery and emergency medicine in the medical department of the University of Frankfurt and has worked extensively on this scientifically. Until 2014 he was the senior physician in charge of the clinic in Frankfurt / Main.

In 2013 he was offered a professorship at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. Since May 1, 2014 he has been director of the University Clinic for Trauma Surgery at the University Clinic Magdeburg.

Scientific contribution

As part of his doctorate, Walcher found important information on the use of the preservation solution Viaspan (Belzer UW-Solution), which is still important in clinical use today, in experimental work on the subject of liver transplantation .

Since 2002 he has dealt with the use of sonography in preclinical emergency medicine. Numerous studies and publications investigate both the use of preclinical sonography in blunt abdominal trauma and in the peri-resuscitation phase. Important clinical contributions were made to the further development of care for the seriously injured and patient safety.

In scientific work, Walcher deals with the optimization of practice-oriented teaching in emergency medicine and surgery. The basis for this was the formulation of the first catalog of learning objectives for students of human medicine from a specialist society. The competency-based catalog of learning objectives of the German Society for Surgery (DGCH) addresses the practice-oriented implementation of the national competency-based catalog of learning objectives for medicine (NKLM) in clinical routine. The position of the newly formed orthopedic trauma surgery specialist is the subject of a number of publications. In a joint project of the universities of Frankfurt, Gießen and Marburg funded by the BMBF, he and an interdisciplinary team dedicated himself to practice-oriented teaching in surgery.

He works in a joint project, again funded by the BMBF, as a project manager on the establishment of a national emergency admission register for the DIVI for nationwide uniform and standardized electronic documentation of all emergencies. In the ongoing BMBF projects, interprofessional teaching and training in acute medicine is addressed in a joint project with the University of Göttingen, the University of Heilbronn and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI).

Memberships in scientific associations

Walcher brings his expertise to numerous scientific associations:

Walcher is a member of the editorial board of the "Originals" section of the Zeitschrift für Emergency und Rettungsmedizin as well as a reviewer in the following journals: European Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery, Der Unfallchirurg, Injury, Zeitschrift für Emergency und Rettungsmedizin, Zeitschrift für Orthopedie und Unfallchirurgie, The surgeon and central journal for surgery.

honors and awards

In 2006 Walcher received the innovation award from the German Society for Trauma Surgery . He was also honored for his excellent teaching at the Frankfurt Faculty of Medicine in 2006 and 2011.
