action

In their restaurant, Bob and Linda Belcher tell their regular customer Teddy that every Halloween they take their children to a haunted house. Louise is not happy because she was never frightened there, but would like to. The parents explain that this time they prepared one themselves. Louise asks her siblings Tina and Gene if they know anything about it, they say no.

Linda and Bob offer the children a tour of the haunted house but fail to scare them. Louise then has the idea to scare her parents. To do this, the children hide in a pile of leaves in the garden and jump out when they come there. The family decides to go home, but there is not enough air in one of the tires in their car. On the street they see a man who doesn't help them and who also looks threatening. They go into the house and Bob tries to call a towing service . When they hear strange noises from the basement, they go to see, but then get scared and go back to the ground floor. The man they saw outside tries to open the front door so they can go upstairs. When they realize that the man is in the house, they lock themselves in the bathroom. As the man tries to get into the bathroom, the family climbs onto the ledge through the window. When Louise sees the man at the window, she screams in fear. Linda photographs her and the family explains that it was all a trick to scare her. Gene and Tina were also privy to it.

While the children in the garden frightened their parents, Teddy let the air out of the tire. Her regular Mort was in the cellar and made noises there, the house belongs to his mother, her boyfriend is the man who frightened Louise. She is very happy about it and thanks her family. After the Belchers are back home, they watch the music video for I Love U So Much (It's Scary) by the boy band Boyz 4 Now from the episode of the same name .

reception

Alasdair Wilkins of the AV Club rated the episode with a "B" and wrote:

“Over the course of the episode, though, [Louise] shifts, first to her more familiar hellion role and then into what she fundamentally is, which is a little kid, and in this case a scared little kid. This is also a great episode for Louise being brutally honest in her comments and provoking similar candor right back: Look at how readily Bob admits that, yeah, being old is scary, or that the kids jumping out of a bunch of leaves was way more effective than his and Linda's elaborate haunted house. Those exchanges would be amusing enough if they were just between two strangers, but it becomes properly hilarious because of our familiarity with Louise and Bob's personalities, perspectives, and mannerisms, not to mention Schaal's and H. Jon Benjamin's performance. "

“As the episode progresses, [Louise] changes, first to her more familiar role as the Devil and then to who she is basically, that is a little kid and in this case a scared little kid. This is also a great episode for Louise to be ruthlessly honest with her comments and to provoke similar candor that comes back to her: See how readily Bob agrees that, yes, being old is terrifying or that the kids look like them jumped the pile of leaves, was much more effective than his and Linda's imagined haunted house. This would be entertaining enough if it happened with two strangers, but it gets really funny because of our familiarity with Louise and Bob's personalities, perspectives and habits, not to mention Schaal's and H. Jon Benjamin's performance. "

Steven Davis and Kelvin Yu received an Annie Award for Outstanding Achievement, Writing in an Animated TV / Broadcast Production for the script for this episode.
