The Fellberg is a mountain of the Thuringian Slate Mountains with a height of 842.1 m above sea level. NHN . It is located west of the town of Steinach in the Sonneberg district . The Fellberg towers over the city by a good 300 meters. Together with the 2 m higher Breitenberg to the west, it forms a horseshoe that is open to the south, whereby you only have to go just below 820 m to get from one peak to the other. In the east the Fellberg runs out in the Steinheider Berg (680 m) via Steinach, in the south in the Geiersberg (727 m). The Fellbergbaude, which is located in the middle of the largest pen fractures in the world, is at this transition .

In winter, the Fellberg has the largest connected ski area in Thuringia, the Silbersattel ski arena . There are 4 lifts there: 1 chair lift, 2 drag lifts and 1 baby lift as well as 5 slopes of various degrees of difficulty.
In summer the area has been used for a bike park since 2005 , the "Silbersattel-Bikepark". It is Thuringia's first bike park where you can test your downhill skills every weekend.
Once a year, the elite of German downhill sports are guests on Fellberg.
History of winter sports
The first pairs of skis are said to have been brought to Steinach as early as 1901. In the following years, winter sports in Steinach developed enormously. A ski jump was also built in the area between Fellberg and Steinach. This has produced some good results on an international level.
Due to the guaranteed snow, some national races take place in Steinach.
