The rock stone immortelle ( Phagnalon saxatile ) is a species of plant from the genus stone immortelle ( Phagnalon ) in the sunflower family (Asteraceae).

The rock stone immortelle is a dwarf shrub that is 10–60 centimeters high. The leaves are 2.5–3.5 centimeters long, linear, green on top and not very hairy, densely woolly-tomentose underneath, with entire margins or serrated at a distance. The edge is often rolled up. The heads stand individually, the outer bracts are spread out or turned back, the middle bracts are linear-lanceolate and pointed, their edge is wavy. The inner bracts are linear.

The flowering period is February to July.

The chromosome number is 2n = 18.

The rock-stone immortelle comes from Madeira, the Canary Islands, Selvagens, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, the Balearic Islands, Portugal, Spain, Gibraltar, France, Corsica, Italy, Sardinia and Sicily, Malta, Albania, Greece and Crete before. It grows on rocks and on walls.

Taxonomy

The rock stone immortelle was first described by Carl von Linné in Sp. Pl .: 857, 1753 as Gnaphalium saxatile . It was then taught by Alexandre Henri Gabriel de Cassini in Bull. Sci. Soc. Philom. Paris 1819: 174. 1819 in the genus Phagnalon Cass. posed. Synonyms of Phagnalon saxatile (L.) Cass. are Phagnalon intermedium (Lag.) Pau , Phagnalon lagascae Cass. , Phagnalon methanaeum Hausskn. and Phagnalon telonense Jord. & Fourr.
