The Fenner or Fennberger See ( Italian Lago di Favogna ) is a biotope- protected lake in the South Tyrolean Unterland ( Italy ).

location

The Fennberger See is 1034  m above sea level on the Fennberg , a plateau mountain in the extreme south of South Tyrol near the border with Trentino . Administratively, it belongs to the Unterfennberg fraction , which is part of the municipality of Margreid . It can be reached by a short footpath that leads from the center of Unterfennberg past the St. Leonhard church to the west bank.

The lake, which lies directly below the step in the terrain that separates Unterfennberg from Oberfennberg , is approximately 1.3 hectares in size. Its maximum depth is 4 m, it holds an estimated volume of 32,500 m³. The catchment area has a size of approximately 1.07 km².

The lake is drained by the Krebusbach .

ecology

The Fennberger See is classified as mesotrophic . Increased nutrient inputs occasionally result from flooding from the nearby meadows and during the bathing season. As a measure against the threat of siltation , an artificial inflow was created in 1981 to increase the water exchange, and between 1989 and 1990 a layer of mud of about half a meter was removed.

In 1978 the lake and the surrounding areas were placed under nature protection because of their botanical and faunistic value.

Analyzes of the water quality with regard to suitability as a bathing lake yielded very good results.

Human use

The lake is visited by bathers in summer. The corresponding infrastructures are limited to a lawn and a wooden walkway.
