Ferdinand Alexandre Coly (born October 9, 1973 in Dakar ) is a football player from Senegal ; he played in the position of defender .

Career

Coly started his career at Stade Poitiers ; here he was already used regularly in his first season, and at the end of the season they rose to Ligue 2 , the second highest French professional league. For the 1996/97 season he then moved to league competitor LB Châteauroux ; Coly stayed here for three seasons before moving to RC Lens for the 1999/00 season. There he was able to shine with consistently good performances, which is why Coly was appointed to the Senegalese national football team. He was part of Senegal's squad at the 2002 World Cup , where he was used in all 5 games that Senegal played. After three seasons at RC Lens, Coly was loaned to Birmingham City in the English Premier League , where he was unable to assert himself, which is why he returned to RC Lens during the winter break. For the 2003/04 season Coly changed clubs again, this time he was drawn to the Italian Serie A club AC Perugia . Here he only made the leap into the regular formation when Perugia was relegated to Serie B. For the 2005/06 season Coly then moved to his last club, Parma FC . Coly belonged among other things to the squad of the Senegalese national soccer team for the soccer championship 2006 , but also that of 2002 , where one could get silver.

After the end of his career as a professional footballer, he was manager of the Senegalese national team for three years, later Coly worked as a farmer in Senegal.
