Ferdinand Eichhorn (born November 22, 1853 in Garlstorf ; † February 18, 1934 in Braunschweig ) was a German businessman and entrepreneur. The oldest large coffee roastery in Lower Saxony, which is still in existence today, emerged from his coffee business, which was founded in Braunschweig in 1880.

life and work

The son of a pastor received an apprenticeship in the food wholesaler and coffee roasting company of his uncle Wilhelm Eichhorn in Hanover .

On January 10, 1880, he founded a specialty coffee and tea shop in Braunschweig at Steinweg 10 with a stock of sixty sacks of coffee . Eichhorn has been roasting his own coffee since 1887 and, in 1894, participated in a steam roaster. The significantly reduced roasting time was associated with a considerable improvement in quality, which Eichhorn used to promote the company with the addition of the coffee quick roasting facility . On December 8, 1920, Carl Heimbs became a partner in the company, which introduced the name Heimbs-Kaffee in 1933 and took over the company in 1934 after Eichhorn's death.
