Garlstorf ( Low German Garlstbod ) is a Marschhufendorf and a district of the city of Bleckede . The district has an area of ​​500 ha.

geography

Garlstorf is nestled between the Elbe with the Elbe valley floodplain in the north and the Bruchwetter in the south. The houses are close together along the village street.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1259. On March 1, 1974 Garlstorf was incorporated into the city of Bleckede.

The Havekost, a lake with a size of over 12 hectares, was placed under nature protection as early as 1976 . Since 1993, two thirds of the areas have been under landscape protection , known as “the Marschhufen”. In 2002 the whole place was incorporated into the biosphere reserve .

Population development

The census of September 13, 1950 showed that there were 437 inhabitants in 115 households. Garlstorf today has 265 inhabitants.

Economy and Infrastructure

Today Garlstorf has six farms, a nursery and an electrical engineering company . In Garlstorf there is a choir ("Concordia"), a fishing club and the volunteer fire brigade with their youth fire brigade . In Werner Schwaberau's “Heimatdiele” there is a lot to marvel at from times gone by.

Equestrian sport has grown in importance in recent years . Many amateur riders have settled in Garlstorf through the Theo Soetebeer breeding farm and the Dirk Soetebeer riding stables with a large riding hall .
