Location of Wendewisch in Lower Saxony

Wendewisch ( Low German Wennwisch ) is a small village on the Elbe with 220 inhabitants. It is administratively part of the city of Bleckede (district of Lüneburg) and is located in the northernmost part of the city, directly on Elbuferstraße.

In Wendewisch there are two old people's homes and two campsites with a restaurant. The empty and for sale Gasthof Wendewisch had a 100-year tradition in its current location.

The Winsener and Lüneburg Elbmarschen offer the opportunity to go hiking and cycling, especially the dike along the Elbe. A boat harbor with its own slipway is available for sailors and motorboat captains .

A volunteer fire brigade has existed since January 17, 1902. In addition to fire protection, the first tasks not only included deployments during floods of the Elbe, but also the rail traffic of the small train , whose spark-spraying locomotives were an acute fire hazard for the many thatched roofs .

On March 1, 1974, Wendewisch was incorporated into the city of Bleckede.
