Ferdinand Försch
Ferdinand Försch (born January 15, 1951 in Bad Brückenau ) is a German musician , composer , sound artist and instrument maker .
Career
Ferdinand Försch studied composition, percussion and electronic music in Würzburg and Stuttgart from 1972 to 1980 . In the early 1980s he was also active as a rock musician under the pseudonym Herbert F. Bairy .
In 1982, during a seminar lasting several weeks in England, he met the American avant-garde composer John Cage , who inspired him to continue his work. Since then he has been developing and building new types of musical instruments. He writes his compositions for them, which he performs in performances and concerts around the world .
Försch repeatedly worked with musicians of different ethnic and stylistic origins, such as in the duo project “From Bach to Hendrix”, with the violinist Tracy Silverman from Nashville or with the Californian guitarist David Tanenbaum and the Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu . In collaboration with the dancer and choreographer Iris Tenge , several ballet music and ballet films were created.
In the years 1986 to 1988 he mainly concentrated on the construction of "sound images" and sound sculptures. In the interplay of sound and visualization, sequences of intervals such as cage and bach resulted in sculptural works, i.e. pictures, sculptures and installations, which the viewer access both optically and musically.
In 1994 he received teaching assignments at the University of Lüneburg and the Stuttgart Art Academy . In 1997 Försch moved from Wotersen Castle to Hamburg, where he opened the KlangHaus as an experimental forum for concerts, exhibitions and performances.
