Ferdinand Holzach (* 1869 in Basel ; † June 8, 1942 ) was a Swiss historian.

Life

Ferdinand Holzach, son of the teacher and temporary entrepreneur Theodor Albrecht Friedrich Holzach, grew up mostly in Alsace , where he attended schools. He then studied history at the University of Basel and obtained his doctorate in 1892. phil. 1892–1903 he worked in Basel as a secondary teacher. 1903–1907 he was a curator at the Basel Historical Museum . In 1907 he was appointed rector of the boys' primary school in the canton of Basel-Stadt - an office that he held until his retirement in 1934.

Ferdinand Holzach was also politically active. So he sat in the Basel Grand Council from 1911 to 1934. 1911-1935 he was a member of the Education Council. From 1921–1933 he was also a member of the Further Citizens 'Council, from 1933 initially a member, then President of the Narrow Citizens' Council.
