Ferdinand Laholli (* 16th June 1960 in Gradishta , Albania ) is an Albanian poet and literary translator.

Career

Ferdinand Laholli was born on June 16, 1960 in Gradishta, a remote place in a marshland of the Myzeqe near Lushnja . His family had been forcibly relocated from Korça because his father fled to the United States . Laholli was later forcibly sent back to Savra, where he had to spend 30 years of his life.

He attended eight years of compulsory school in Savra. Because of the repression of the state against his family, he was only able to complete the evening school in 1987. As an internee, he was banned from studying at the university.

At the age of 15 he was looking for a publisher for his first book manuscript, but he saw the first book publication in Albania only after the fall of the dictatorship. In 1990 Laholli emigrated to Germany . He lives in Bückeburg .

Laholli writes poetry and prose and has published several books in his mother tongue. His poems have been translated into German, Italian, English, Swedish, Turkish, Dutch, Carinthian , Romanian and French. Laholli also works as a translator of German literature into Albanian.
