Ferdinand von Galen zu Assen (baptismal name: Ferdinand Karl Alexander Benedikt Anton Maria) (* July 12, 1750 in Münster ; † November 11, 1803 ibid) was Droste of the Meppen office , privy councilor and chief hunter in the Principality of Münster .
Life
Origin and family
Numerous prominent and well-known personalities have emerged from the ancient Westphalian noble family von Galen , which is one of the most important in the Duchy of Münster . In the 16th century it partially sympathized with the Reformation , but later became Catholic again . Ferdinand Karl von Galen zu Assen was born as the son of Wilhelm Ferdinand von Galen zu Assen and his wife Sophie Louise von Merveldt zu Westerwinkel (1730–1810) and grew up with his brother Clemens August Josef , his sister Maria (1752–1829, ∞ Clemens August von Ketteler) and his half-brother Clemens August Ferdinand , who died at the early age of 27.
Career and work
Ferdinand Karl received the Galen family praise in Worms and Minden in 1767 . A year later he was presented to the knighthood of Münster. After his brother Clemens August Josef in 1770 renounced , he received the stipend Galensche in Muenster and Osnabrueck . In the same year he received another cathedral seal in Halberstadt . This was followed by three years of study in Rome and Pisa. In September 1788 he received the ordination and obedience in Ladbergen. In 1790 he became chief hunter . In 1796, Pope Leo XIII. the dispensation from higher consecration. 1797 abandoned it to the prebends and married on June 21, 1797 Ferdinandine Maria Antonia of Mengersen (1773-1824). The marriage remained childless. On February 25th, 1800 he was appointed a privy councilor of Münster . On April 11, 1801 he was appointed Drosten of the Meppen Office. He was canon and capitular at several cathedral monasteries .
