Ferdinando Bernardi (born July 10, 1874 in Castiglione Torinese , metropolitan city of Turin , Italy , † November 18, 1961 in Taranto ) was Archbishop of Taranto .

Life

Ferdinando Bernardi was ordained a priest on June 29, 1900 .

Pope Pius XI appointed him on April 11, 1931 Bishop of Andria . He was ordained bishop on June 28 of the same year by the Italian military bishop Angelo Bartolomasi . Co- consecrators were Giovanni Pirastru , Bishop of Iglesias , and Giovanni Maria Sanna , Bishop of Gravina e Irsina . On January 21, 1935, Pius XI. Bernardi as Archbishop of Taranto. In his first years in office he planned to abolish the rites of Holy Week , but gave up this idea after strong opposition from the faithful. In 1937, the first Eucharistic Congress took place in the Archdiocese under Bernardi's leadership. From 1952 his health deteriorated, so that he had to be supported by his auxiliary bishop and later successor Guglielmo Motolese . He died in 1961 at the age of 87.
