Ferdinando Salleo

Ferdinando Salleo (born October 2, 1936 in Messina ) is an Italian diplomat and former ambassador of his country in the United States (1996-2002), in the Soviet Union and in Russia .

Life

Salleo completed his classical studies in 1959 at the University of Rome and received the Doctor Juris diploma ad honorem ( Dr. jur. ) At the private Roman Catholic St. Thomas University in Florida . He entered the diplomatic service in 1960. He was deputy consul general in New York, envoy ( Deputy Chief of Mission , deputy head of the embassy) at the embassies in Prague and later in Bonn.

From 1986 to 1988 he was Permanent Representative of Italy to the OECD and accredited to the European Space Agency and the European Organization for the Use of Commercial Satellite Communication Systems (EUTELSAT).

From 1983 to 1984 he was visiting professor for development policy at the University of Florence and from 1985 to 1986 and visiting professor for theory of international relations at the private LUISS in Rome.

From 1974 to 1977 he headed the NATO Department in the Political Department, later was Director General of the Economic Department in the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Director General of the Political Department and Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From May 15, 1989 he was the Italian ambassador to the USSR. From January 10, 1992 he was the Italian ambassador to Russia.

From November 9, 1995 to February 25, 2003 he was Italian Ambassador to the United States and a permanent observer for Italy with the OSA Organization of American States . From 2003 to 2011 he was deputy chairman of the board of MedioCredito Centrale (MCC), Rome, a bank of the UniCredit Group.
