Francis of Vecsey

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz von Vecsey ( Hungarian Vecsey Ferenc ; born March 23, 1893 in Budapest , Austria-Hungary , † April 5, 1935 in Rome ) was a Hungarian violinist and composer .

Life

Jean Sibelius dedicated his violin concerto to the 12-year-old child prodigy. Franz von Vecsey studied with Jenő Hubay and Joseph Joachim and went on concert tours with Béla Bartók at the piano. Hermann Zilcher was his companion on the concert tour to the United States in 1903 . Because of his romantic virtuosity, he was considered the "leading violinist of his time" (... the leading virtuoso of the age ...). Recordings of his self-composed Chanson triste (1913) or of Giuseppe Tartini's Devil's Trill Sonata prove his expressiveness. He died early at the age of 42 from a failed medical operation .
