Fermín Revueltas Sánchez

Fermín Revueltas Sánchez (born July 7, 1901 in Santiago Papasquiaro , Durango , † September 7, 1935 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican painter .

Life

Fermín was one of the sons of Gregorio Revueltas Gutiérrez and Romana Sánchez Arias , a family from northern Mexico. From 1910 to 1913 the Revueltas Sánchez family went to Guadalajara . Because of the raging revolution in Mexico , the father decided to send his sons Fermín and Silvestre to school in the United States . From 1917 to 1920 they first attended St. Edward College in Austin (Texas) and then the school in Chicago . Back in Mexico, Fermín studied Revueltas at the outdoor school of Coyoacán .

He then became director of the "José María Velasco" school in Guadalupe (Mexico City). In 1923 he was involved in the wall paintings of the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria with other well-known artists. In 1928 he joined the Partido Comunista Mexicano . He was active in various artists' associations, was also a supporter of Mexican Estridentism and later also a member of the group of revolutionary painters "30-30".

He died in the middle of the heyday of his work in 1935, leaving behind a multitude of unfinished projects.

In 1991 Javier Audirac made a documentary film about his life and work entitled “Fermín Revueltas o El color” ( Fermín Revueltas or The Color ).
