Far from Europe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Far from Europe: Tyrol without a mask is a satirical work by the Viennese writer Carl Techet , which was published in 1909 under the pseudonym Sepp Schluiferer . In several short stories, the teacher at the kuk Realschule in Kufstein caricatures the way of thinking and the behavior of the Tyrolean population.

reception

As expected, the response to Schluiferer's book in Tyrol was largely negative. After a few personal attacks, the author had to flee to Munich , and in 1910 he was transferred to Proßnitz in Moravia . Outside of Tyrol, the reactions were different: Techet was described as a splendid cultural portrayal , as a brilliant designer of peasant characters and caricatures and his work was described as one of the funniest books we know . From 1921 onwards the book was published with two chapters under the title "Tyrol without a mask".
