Fernand Melgar (2018)

Fernand Melgar (born July 4, 1961 in Tangier ) is a Spanish - Swiss director and producer of documentaries . His films have won numerous awards, including the Golden Leopard "Contemporary Cineasts" and two Swiss film awards.

He is a representative of copyleft , and his films are available for free on platforms such as vimeo .

Life

He is the son of Spanish anarcho-syndicalists from the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT), who emigrated to Morocco in the 1930s. With them he secretly emigrated to Switzerland as a seasonal worker in 1964.

In the 1980s he interrupted his economics studies to take part in the Lôzane Bouge movement and to found the Orwell Cabaret and the La Dolce Vita rock club in Lausanne with friends .

From 1983 he was self-taught and made his first documentaries for Swiss television and the cinema. In 1985 he joined Climage, the Association of Independent Film Directors. He left them in 2018 and founded his own production company Le Dzè.

Fernand Melgar lives and works in Lausanne , Switzerland.
