Fernando Carro (Manager)

Fernando Carro de Prada (born July 27, 1964 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish manager . Since July 1, 2018, he has been primarily responsible for the management of the German Bayer 04 Leverkusen Fußball GmbH, which competes with its men's team in the Bundesliga .

Life

Fernando Carro grew up in Barcelona and attended the German School Barcelona in Esplugues de Llobregat , which he left in 1982 with the general university entrance qualification. He then completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk and later studied industrial engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany . During his time as a student, Carro worked as a sports journalist in Austria during the semester break when he lived in the Viennese household of the Austrian national soccer player Hans Krankl , who was active for clubs there from 1981 to 1988. Krankl had previously been tutored in Spanish by Carro's mother when he was with FC Barcelona in the late 1970s .

Carro gained his first professional experience during and after his studies as the international president of the student organization AIESEC . After this position, he went to Bertelsmann in Gütersloh in 1993 , where he worked for a total of 24 years in various functions, including on the Group's executive board. In 2015 he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Management of what was then Arvato AG. Shortly afterwards, due to internal restructuring, he switched to the position of managing director and organized the reintegration of the AG into the Bertelsmann group structure in 2016.

On April 20, 2018, Carro was appointed by the shareholders' committee of Bayer 04 Leverkusen Fußball GmbH as co-spokesman for the Bundesliga club's management with effect from May 15 of that year . Since July 1st of that year, Carro has been working primarily responsible for and together with the sports director , Rudi Völler .

Carro is married and has three children with his wife. In addition to Spanish, he also speaks German and English .
