Fernando Hernández Casado (born February 24, 1973 in Valladolid , Spain ) is a Spanish handball player . He is 1.85 m tall and weighs 80 kg. He is usually used on the right winger.
Fernando Hernández began playing handball in his hometown at the La Salle club. With La Salle he won the Spanish Junior Championship in Bilbao in 1989. In 1992 he made his debut for the local first division club BM Valladolid in the Spanish league ASOBAL , but won no titles. He then moved to rival Ademar León in 1996 , where he won the Copa ASOBAL and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 2000. In the same year he was signed by the great FC Barcelona . With the Catalans he won the Copa ASOBAL and the Spanish Supercup in 2001, the Copa ASOBAL again in 2002, the Spanish Championship and the EHF Cup in 2003, the Copa del Rey de Balonmano , the Spanish Supercup and the EHF Champions Trophy in 2004, the EHF in 2005 Champions League , 2006 again the Spanish championship and 2007 again the Spanish Supercup. In 2007, however, Barcelona only finished fourth in the league, which led to a complete upheaval in the club's management. As a result, Hernández was swapped for Albert Rocas from SDC San Antonio . In 2010 he moved to the second division to BM Badajoz. In 2012 he returned to BM Valladolid.
Fernando Hernández has made 120 international appearances for the Spanish national team , scoring 327 goals. At the 2005 World Championships he won the title with the Spanish team, at the 1996 European Championships he won silver and bronze at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
