Fernando León de Aranoa (born May 26, 1968 in Madrid , Spain ) is a Spanish film director and screenwriter .

Life

Fernando León de Aranoa worked for an advertising agency for a short time and dropped out of his media studies studies to work as a screenwriter for television. After he was successful as such, he wrote screenplays for movies and made his directorial debut with the short film Sirenas in 1994. For his first feature film, Familia , he received the Goya for best young director. In 1998 he released his second feature film with Barrio , for which he was awarded two Goyas and the Silver Shell of the Festival Internacional de Cine de Donostia-San Sebastián . As a screenwriter, he worked on the book of the Mexican film La ley de Herodes and received the Premio Ariel for it in 2000 . The international breakthrough came in 2002 with the multi-award winning drama Mondays in the Sun .
