Fernando Montiel

Fernando Montiel (born March 1, 1979 in Los Mochis , Mexico ) is a Mexican boxer . He is a former WBO world champion in fly and bantamweight as well as two-time WBO world champion in super flyweight and WBC world champion in bantamweight.

Professional career

In 1996 he started his professional career successfully. On December 15, 2000 he boxed against Isidro Garcia in the super flyweight for the world title of the WBO and won by technical knockout in round 7. He defended this title a total of five times and lost it in August 2003 to Mark Johnson by majority decision.

On April 9, 2005 he won this belt again when he knocked Iván Hernández in the 7th round. He defended the belt seven times and put it down for m years when he switched to bantamweight. In this weight class he became WBC world champion on February 13, 2010 with a technical knockout victory. In 2011 he lost this title to Nonito Donaire .

In 1979 he ended his career.
