The Upper Elsetal nature reserve with a size of 5.3 hectares is located in the municipality of Herscheid south or southeast of the Else settlement . The nature reserve (NSG) was designated in 1998 by the Märkischer Kreis with the landscape plan No. 5 Herscheid .
Area description
NSG is the Else (Lenne) stream valley with its source. The NSG is occupied by grassland areas. The grassland areas are partially moist.
Protection purpose
According to the nature reserve designation, the area was designated a nature reserve for the preservation, development and restoration of a stream valley with grassland with a specially adapted flora and fauna. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
