Hochsteiner Moor nature reserve

The nature reserve Hochsteiner Moor with a size of 2.6 hectares is located in the municipality of Herscheid south of the Hochstein Hoflage. The nature reserve (NSG) was designated in 1998 by the Märkischer Kreis with the landscape plan No. 5 Herscheid .

Area description

NSG is a hillside moor.

Protection purpose

According to the nature reserve designation, the area was designated a nature reserve for the preservation, development and restoration of a hillside moor with a specially adapted flora and fauna. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
