The Sonnenhohl nature reserve with a size of 13.3 hectares is located on the southern edge of the municipality of Herscheid , east of the Becke settlement . The nature reserve (NSG) was designated in 1998 by the Märkischer Kreis with the landscape plan No. 5 Herscheid . In the north, road 696 partially forms the NSG border.
The NSG Sonnenhohl was designated in 2004 as part of the FFH area Ebbemoore with the number DE 4812-301 and a size of 1,068 ha. Five other areas are located in the municipality of Herscheid. Large parts of this FFH area are also located in the Meinerzhagen urban area .
Area description
NSG is a moor and headwaters area for the Herveler Bach . The break is a black alder forest .
Protection purpose
According to the nature reserve designation, the area was designated as a nature reserve for the preservation, development and restoration of a spring and moor area with specially adapted flora and fauna; for the conservation, development and restoration of semi-natural deciduous forests. Furthermore, in order to contribute to the safeguarding of the ecological network Natura 2000 of the EU in the sense of the Habitats Directive and also to the preservation and development of communities and habitats of wild, partly endangered animal and plant species. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
