Nature reserve Auf dem Roten Schlote

The nature reserve Auf dem Roten Schlote with a size of 5.4 hectares is located in the municipality of Herscheid south of the Niedermeste settlement . The nature reserve (NSG) was designated for the first time in 1949 and again designated in 1998 by the Märkischer Kreis with the landscape plan No. 5 Herscheid .

Area description

The NSG is a biotope complex made up of broken forest , tree-free bog and juniper mountain heather.

Protection purpose

According to the nature reserve designation, the area was designated a nature reserve for the preservation, development and restoration of a biotope complex made up of broken forest, treeless bog and juniper mountain heather with specially adapted flora and fauna. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
