Nature reserve Auf der Gasmert

The nature reserve Auf der Gasmert with a size of 5.2 hectares is located in the municipality of Herscheid ( Märkischer Kreis , North Rhine-Westphalia ) south of the Gasmert settlement .

The nature reserve consists of four sub-areas, one of which is significantly larger than the other areas. A first part of the NSG was designated in 1951. Further sub-areas were designated in 1953 and 1957. In 1998 the NSG was designated again by the Märkischer Kreis with the landscape plan No. 5 Herscheid .

Area description

The NSG is a juniper heather .

Protection purpose

According to the nature reserve designation, the area was designated a nature reserve for the maintenance, development and restoration of a juniper heather with a specially adapted flora and fauna. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
