The Vitosha Mountain TV Tower (official name: complex radio-television center "Vitosha"; bulg Комплексен радио-телевизионен център "Витоша"; abbreviated KRTZ Vitosha - Kopitoto; bulg КРТЦ Витоша - Копитото..) Is a 186-meter high TV tower on the eponymous 1348 Meter high rock spike Kopitoto (German: the hoof) southwest of Sofia in the Vitosha Mountains . After the Russian TV tower , it is the second tallest TV tower in Bulgaria.

history

The tower was built in 1985 and took over the transmission of radio and television programs, for which the old Sofia television tower located in the city area had been used until then . Like the old television tower, this tower was designed by the architect Lyuben Podponev in collaboration with Stefan Tilew. The engineer was Ivan Jantachtow.

description

At the foot of the hexagonal tower shaft and at the upper end, the reinforced concrete tower has two separate tower cages , also with a hexagonal floor plan . In between there are four antenna platforms around the shaft that provide space for directional antennas . The concrete shaft rises up to a height of 108 meters. At the top of the 17-story reinforced concrete shaft is a steel antenna painted in white and red.
