Ferocactus chrysacanthus is a species of the genus Ferocactus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet chrysacanthus means 'golden yellow prickly'.
description
Ferocactus chrysacanthus grows individually and rarely sprouts. The drives achieve with diameters of 30 centimeters stature heights of up to 100 centimeters. There are about 21 humped ribs . The thorns are white, yellow or red, occasionally gray. The approximately 10 central spines are flattened, ringed, slightly twisted and up to 5 centimeters long. A central spine is sometimes curved to hook-shaped. The radial spines radiating from 4 to 12 or more are usually white. Usually they are needle-like and only rarely bristle-like.
The bell-shaped flowers are red or yellow or orange. They reach a length of up to 4.5 centimeters and have a diameter of 4 centimeters. The up to 3 centimeters long, yellow fruits are fleshy and open with a basal pore.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
The distribution area of Ferocactus chrysacanthus extends along the Pacific west coast in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur and includes the offshore islands Cedros and San Benito .
It was first described as Echinocactus chrysacanthus in 1899 by Charles Russell Orcutt . Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose placed them in the genus Ferocactus in 1922 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
