Ferocactus glaucescens is a species of the genus Ferocactus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet glaucescens means 'turning blue-gray-green'.

Ferocactus glaucescens grows individually or in branches with spherical, blue-green frosted shoots and reaches heights of up to 45 centimeters and more with diameters of up to 50 centimeters. The shoots are slightly depressed at their apex. There are 12 to 17 sharp-edged ribs that are not humped. The areoles on it are elongated and often connected to each other. The priemlichen, yellow thorns are up to 3.5 centimeters long and are difficult to differentiate into central and radial spines. There is a single central spine and up to 6 to 7 radial spines.

The bell-shaped, yellow flowers reach a length of up to 4.5 centimeters and have a diameter of 2.5 to 3.5 centimeters. The spherical, whitish or yellowish, red-tinged fruits are fleshy. They are up to 2.5 inches long and covered with yellowish, ciliate scales.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Ferocactus glaucescens is common in the Mexican states of Guanajuato , Hidalgo , Querétaro and San Luis Potosí .

It was first described as Echinocactus glaucescens in 1828 by Augustin-Pyrame de Candolle . Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose placed them in the genus Ferocactus in 1922 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
