The Ferrell Buttress (English for Ferrell pillar ) is a striking and around 900 m high cliff in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . On the Hillary Coast , it looms near the eastern end of the Cranfield Icefalls on the southern flank of the mouth of Darwin Glacier into the Ross Ice Shelf .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the formation in 2000 after Lieutenant Commander William F. Ferrell of the United States Navy , pilot of the squadron VXE-6 at the camp on the Darwin Glacier operated between 1978 and 1979 .
