The Ferrovia Decauville Revine - Vergoman was laid in 1918, about 15.3 km long Decauville - field railway with 600 mm gauge in northeast Italy on the border between the regions of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Veneto ( Treviso province ).

location

The line consisted of flying track , i.e. H. prefabricated 5 m long track yokes made of Vignole rails on steel sleepers . It was probably an extension of the Decauville Railway from Sacile via Sant'Andrea in Vittorio Veneto to Revine Lago . From Revine Lago it ran via Miane , Follina and Cison di Valmarino to Vergoman . From there there was a light railway line via Pieve di Soligo to Conegliano .

history

The Decauville Railway Revine – Vergoman was built by the Austro-Hungarian army at the beginning of 1918 during World War I to transport food, weapons and ammunition to the new front that fell after the Italian defeat in the Twelfth Isonzo Battle (October 24th to 27th 1917) on the Piave . During the Italian offensive at the end of October 1918, the so-called Battle of Vittorio Veneto , the railway fell into Italian hands after the battle at Revine on October 30, 1918. On November 4th, 1918 the war ended with the armistice of Villa Giusti .

During the retreat, parts of the train and rail vehicles were sunk in the lake, where they could initially be found by divers before they were covered by sediments and mud. Some of the rails were dismantled and brought to Vittorio Veneto, where they were e.g. B. are still partially preserved as a support beam of a basement. Some yokes of the Decauville Railway should occasionally still be visible at low tide in summer near the pile dwellings of Fratta ( it ) . Presumably they were reused there in post-war construction work.
