As Festa de l'Unità , now mostly Festa de l'Unità (Feast of the unit), the Italian in many communities of the are Italian Communist Party (PCI) and its successor parties referred organized summer festivals, originally in favor of the party newspaper L'Unità held were. There are local, regional, thematic, but also national festivals with this name.
The Fête de l'Humanité in France , which has been successful since the 1930s, served as a model . The original purpose of the press festival was to finance the party newspaper L'Unità. The first of these festivals took place in 1945 in the municipalities of Mariano Comense and Lentate sul Seveso . Over time, this type of event has become a major source of funding for the party, especially at the local level.
A Festa Democratica was held for a few years as part of the Partito Democratico , and since 2014 the festival has been under the traditional name again. The old name still lives on at provincial level.
