Festival of Nations

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Festival of Nations is an international film festival for non-commercial film ( amateur and short film ) that takes place in Austria every June .

With up to 1,000 submissions annually from all over the world, the seven-day festival is the largest event of its kind in Austria. In addition to the varied film program, the festival is valued by visitors as a meeting place for young people interested in film and because of its atypical family atmosphere, the workshops for those interested and the scenic location.

history

The festival was founded in 1973 and initially took place in Carinthia . From 1989 it was held in Upper Austria's Ebensee and since then has been led by festival director Erich Riess. The organizer is the European Video Archive (EVA) cultural association. Since 2013 the festival no longer takes place in Ebensee, but in nearby Lenzing am Attersee .

Conditions of participation

Since the organizer would like to offer as many filmmakers as possible the opportunity to present their productions to a wide audience, entry fees will not be charged. All films that were produced in the last two years prior to the respective festival with non-commercial intent and submitted by the annual entry deadline on February 1st are eligible to participate.

jury

The five-person jury , which is not made up of the same people every year, invites you to a discussion with the film authors and the audience after each rating . This involvement of all attendees, which is unusual for international film festivals, offers amateur filmmakers in particular a good opportunity to get professional feedback . In order to facilitate these discussions, the organizer prefers to show those films whose authors or author representatives have confirmed their presence at the festival. Short films with a maximum length of 5 minutes, on the other hand, are not judged by the festival jury, but rather by the audience by means of voting.
