history

In 2004 Joachim Schaefer ( Yoshino ), Dietmar Feldmann ( DDFM ) and Thomas Geier formed the band Festland. Joachim Schaefer and Thomas Geier had already produced electronic music together under the project name Freischwimmer and organized events as Radio Gruga in Essen. The painter Fabian Weinecke , who died in 2012, is counted as the secret fourth member of the band , who designed the cover and wrote most of the lyrics.

Both Joachim Schaefer and Dietmar Feldmann are studied musicians. Thomas Geier is self-taught as a drummer and initially played for Die Government . The classical violinist Joachim Schaefer was already active with the band Marilyn's Army before the mainland was founded and published with the project Lorenzo House . Like Thomas Geier, he mainly worked as a DJ in the 1990s.

In 2006, Festland first released a vinyl EP entitled World Burns and in the same year the debut album On your Windows flowers grow on Alfred Hilsberg's label Zickzack Records . In 2010 the album World Burns followed on ZickZack . At the invitation of the Goethe Institute , the band played on the occasion of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010 as the official representative of the city of Essen in Paris. This was followed by an invitation from the Goethe Institute to Kazakhstan and an invitation from the Foreign Office to Kyrgyzstan . In 2010 World Burns was named best pop album of the year in the weekly newspaper Die Zeit .

In 2014, Mainland played several acoustic concerts in small clubs. This finally gave rise to the idea of ​​producing a purely acoustic album, which was recorded in 2015 under the title But the winds wehn .
