description

Festuca polita var. Cretica is a perennial eyrie hemicryptophyte that reaches heights of 15 to 50 centimeters. The leaves are 0.35 to 0.8 millimeters in diameter. They have 7 nerves . The sclerenchyma ring is more or less continuous in the leaf cross section and clearly thickened at the base. The lemma is twice as long as the awn . The panicle is 45 to 60 (rarely 25 to 75) millimeters long.

The flowering period extends from June to August.

Occurrence

Festuca polita var. Cretica is endemic to Crete in the prefecture of Chania . The species grows here in hedgehog cushion heaths in the Lefka Ori at altitudes of 1750 to 1800 meters.
