The lightship Weser , renamed Bremen in 1900 , was commissioned by the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen because of the increasing shipping traffic in the Outer Weser and built by Werft AG Weser as an iron three-mast schooner with pole masts.

On October 10, 1874, the lightship was laid out at Weser station (position: 53 ° 54 ′ 0 ″  N , 7 ° 49 ′ 0 ″  E ). In June 1889 the Weser was pulled in again because the new Weser I building took over its station. After the renaming in Bremen in 1900, the design was based on the Bremen station west of the Tegeler Plate (position: 53 ° 47 ′ 0 ″  N , 8 ° 9 ′ 0 ″  E ). During the First World War , the ship served as an auxiliary vehicle for the Imperial Navy . In 1925 the lightship Jasmund took over the position of the Bremen , renaming it Bremen II . The ship sank when used as a blocking vehicle off Eckernförde Bay in May 1945.
