With the decommissioning of the Borkumriff IV on July 15, 1988, the use of manned German lightships ended. Today there are still three unmanned lightships (UFS) operating alternately at two stations in German waters:
- Station " GW / EMS " (German Bight Western Approach) formerly "TW / EMS" (Tiefenwasserweg / Ems) at 54 ° 10.0 'north, 6 ° 20.8' east
- Station "GB" (German Bight) formerly "Deutsche Bucht" at 54 ° 10.8 'north, 7 ° 27.6' east
