The lighthouse Kalkgrund is a guiding , warning and cross light in the control of the Flensburg Fjord . He warns shipping about the Kalkgrund shoal .
history
As a replacement for the lightships Kalk Grund (1876–1910) and Flensburg (1910–1963), construction of the first lighthouse in the Baltic Sea standing in the water began in the spring of 1962.
The saving of personnel costs, the higher fire height with fixed sectors and the unrestricted operation when the ice drifts were the main reasons for replacing the lightship with an unmanned tower. The beacon was put into operation on June 11, 1963 as the first fully automatic lighthouse on the German coast. It is maintained by the Lübeck Waterways and Shipping Office and monitored by the traffic control center in Travemünde .
Structure and equipment
The deep foundation consists of 24 up to 32 meter long steel piles that support a reinforced concrete foundation cast at the Howaldtswerke in Kiel . The red and white tiled tower is built on top of it.
The beacon consists of a 230 V / 1 kW halogen lamp and a Fresnel lens with a focal length of 200 mm. With a light intensity of 54,918 candela , the range of the fire is up to 24 nautical miles (approx. 44 kilometers). The lighthouse is supplied with power via a submarine cable and, if the power supply fails, via an emergency power system installed in the tower .
Further equipment includes a fog horn , which is automatically switched by a visibility measuring device, a radar beacon and a level for continuous water level measurement. The tower is illuminated in the dark.
From commissioning until July 7, 2015, the tower was equipped with a refuge for castaways.
Tourist aspect
The lighthouse cannot be visited. From land, the lighthouse can be easily seen and photographed from the Geltinger Birk . In 2013 a webcam was installed at the lighthouse in different viewing directions, which enables virtual visits, so to speak . The webcam should, among other things, make it possible to observe porpoises . The closest lighthouse is the Falshöft lighthouse , which is not in the water but on land and can therefore be visited without any problems.
