The lightship Weser is a former lightship that is now a museum ship in Wilhelmshaven.

history

The ship was built from 1906 to 1907 as Norderney I by AG Weser in Bremen for the buoy and beacon office . The delivery took place on March 14, 1907. The ship was initially propelled by a steam engine . 1952 to 1954 of the drive as part of a modernization of the vessel was changed, while the ship with a six-cylinder was MWM - diesel engine equipped with an output of 228 kW.

The ship was initially a reserve light ship for other stations in the North Sea . On October 31, 1936, the Elbe 1 station took over after the lightship of Mayor O'Swald sank on the station. From 1939 to 1945 the ship was moored as light ship H at the Elbe 2 station, and then again at the Elbe 1 station from 1945.

On November 7, 1948, it was withdrawn from the Elbe 1 station, as the new building Mayor O'Swald II took over the station. From 1949 to 1952 the ship was a reserve light ship for the stations Elbe 1, Weser and Bremen.

On March 26, 1954, the ship was laid out at the Weser station (position:) , but relocated to the Bremen station in 1955 and 1956 due to poor sea characteristics and insufficient engine power after the conversion from steam to engine propulsion. In 1956, renovation work was finally carried out on the ship again. Then it was laid out again at the Weser station. World icon

The ship was towed from Bontekai to Nordfrost-Nordwestkai in June 2017. Since Nordfrost needed the berth, the ship was towed to the commercial port on December 14, 2017 and laid up there. The former lightship is no longer freely accessible.
