The furnace and chimney builder is a state-recognized training occupation according to the Vocational Training Act and the Crafts Code .

Duration of training and structure

The duration of training to become a furnace and chimney builder is usually three years. The training takes place at the training company, training center and vocational school . The training is in block lessons. It is the second stage of a level training to become a building construction worker .

Work areas

Furnace and chimney builders produce fireproof structures for furnaces and flue gas ducts from stones. They build chimneys , manufacture exhaust systems from prefabricated parts and take care of adequate lightning protection . They find their job in industrial construction , in residential construction and in public construction. They can be used in the renovation , modernization and repair of refractory structures as well as in new buildings.

Training allowance

The amount of the training allowance is often based on collective bargaining agreements . For example, the Bauindustrieverband Hamburg eV has agreed the following remuneration:

  • 1st year of training: 614.00 euros
  • 2nd year of training: 943.00 euros
  • 3rd year of training: 1,191.00 euros.

  • Fred Dibnah was an English chimney builder ( steeplejack ) specializing in demolitions and a television presenter for technical history programs.
