The Leipzig fire brigade is an authority of the city of Leipzig and is formed by the professional fire brigade and the volunteer fire brigades of the city of Leipzig in Saxony . It is one of the oldest fire brigades in Germany and is part of the fire department in Office 37 of the City of Leipzig.

The Leipzig fire brigade maintains 6 fire stations and 22 fire stations of the volunteer fire brigade. 340 children and young people are active in 21 youth fire brigades . In addition, there are plant fire brigades (WF) in the urban area , to which the WF BMW plant Leipzig belongs.

The volunteer fire brigade drives independently parallel to the professional fire brigade operations throughout the city, whereby at least one fire brigade of the professional fire brigade is always alerted in the event of larger events and the voluntary fire brigade forms the supplementary unit in the fire engine .

Furthermore, some district fire brigades are active in important specialist areas. For example, they set up the decontamination unit in the event of accidents involving dangerous substances, support water rescue or deploy as a first responder unit in the rescue service .

history

In 1847 the volunteer gymnast fire brigade Leipzig was formed, from which the professional fire brigade emerged on March 1, 1865.

Since 1993 there has been an exchange with the partner fire brigade in Orange City (California) at regular intervals . Comrades from Leipzig travel to the USA to take part in training courses and missions. Conversely, colleagues from the USA also come to Saxony.

Integrated regional control center Leipzig (IRLS-Leipzig)

The Leipzig regional control center located in the south-west fire station , responsible around the clock for around 1.1 million citizens in Leipzig , northern Saxony and the Leipzig district, is the central hub for everything to do with the fire service, rescue service and ambulance transport. The control center can be reached on the emergency number 112 as well as on 19 222 for ambulance services. Specially trained dispatchers coordinate the necessary vehicles and measures for every situation from there. In 2016, the dispatchers at the control center received a total of 267,905 emergency calls, of which 173,353 calls were made to the city of Leipzig.
