The Fijian Dollar is the currency of the Fiji Islands . Although the island nation is an independent republic , both banknotes and coins bear the face of Queen Elizabeth II , who was given the title of Supreme Chief of Fiji after Fiji's independence . Fiji dollar bills and coins are put into circulation by the Reserve Bank of Fiji .

The Fiji dollar was reintroduced in 1969 , following the example of the Australian dollar , replacing the pound. 1 dollar was 10 old shillings, so 1 pound became 2 dollars.
